Prior to becoming landlocked in Edgecomb and joining our staff, Peter Gaughan grew up in Clinton, Massachusetts and graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice.

It was while living along the shores of Bristol County, MA, that he found out boating was what he enjoyed the most, but felt that the New England boating season was far too short, so he sailed south in the fall of 1993 and ended up in Coconut Grove, Florida (Miami), where he worked on private yachts (both power and sail) for eleven years. His time on the water has made him familiar with the waters of the United States east coastal areas from Maine to the Florida Keys, the Florida west coast and the waters around the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. Peter is not only a licensed captain, but he is also a technically competent yacht surveyor and technician.

Peter often visited his parent's vacation home in Kennebunk and now with a family of his own, began to long for the way life was in Maine. So, along with his wife Evelyn (whom he met while stopping for supplies in the Dominican Republic) and their then 4-year-old son, Bayly, sailed their 32' Bristol sloop "Contessa" from Miami to the mid-coast of Maine in the summer/fall of 2004 in search of a good old-fashioned community "Where one doesn't need to lock the door and neighbors are friendly" to settle down and call home. Since arriving in Maine, Peter has continued his passion restoring a 13’ Boston Whaler with his son as his “Helper”. At times, Peter also manages to get out of the office for a week or so to deliver a yacht. It is here in Maine that he enjoys spending evenings and weekends with his family instead of being away at sea for extended periods of time.
